If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and felt like the person looking back has aged more than you expected, you’re certainly not alone. When applied correctly, makeup can make you look like a more polished and glamorous version of yourself, bringing out your best features and making you feel great. But, it’s easy to get caught up in the wrong use of makeup and cosmetics – causing you to look older than your actual age rather than achieving that youthful appearance you’re after. From getting a little heavy-handed with foundation to going overboard with mascara, here’s a look at beauty mistakes that can age you.
6 Make Up Mistakes that makes you look older
1. Mistake: Clumpy, thick mascara. When it comes to using too much mascara, you can easily (and accidentally) draw attention to crow’s feet and other fine lines.
Solution: Use lengthening mascara on top lashes only to give eyes a bright and wide-awake look rather than an overly made up appearance.
2. Mistake: Too much metallic and sparkly eye-shadow.
Solution: A little bit of bright shimmer is great every once in a while as long as it’s concentrated (and used sparingly) in the inner corners rather than all-over or of on the outer edges of the lids. Less is definitely more with this one! The two highlighting shades in the Motives Mavens Element Palette provide just enough light and shimmer for highlighting and lifting the eye.
3. Mistake: Using too much foundation. Over using foundation is one of the easiest ways to end up looking a bit older than you actually are. Thick makeup can look as though you’re trying to cover something up rather than using a little touch to accentuate your natural beauty.
Solution: Opt for tinted moisturizer or sheer foundation rather than heavy coverage – you’ll look younger, fresher and just gorgeous!
4. Mistake: Over using face powder. This is one you really have to be careful with. Too much powder can easily get caught in fine lines, causing the lines to be overly accentuated, making skin appear dry and ageing you faster than the blink of an eye.
Solution: Best bet – skip the powder entirely.
5. Mistake: Too much lipstick and lip liner. Here’s another one to be wary of – too much lipstick, especially in thick, bright colours has an ageing effect that you definitely want to avoid.
Solution: Choose rosy, natural colours with a glossy sheen that help lift and plump your natural pout. I personally love Rosewood as a great everyday colour.
6. Mistake: Adding blush to the apples of your cheeks.
Solution: Rather than applying directly to the apples of the cheeks and creating a round look, lightly apply blush up the cheekbone. Use an upward motion when applying to help lift the face and give the illusion of a slimmer face.
