When you look in the mirror are you happy with your breasts? And we’re not talking about the size here. That’s an entirely different matter. But are your breasts as youthful looking, as perky as they were in the past? All women are faced with this problem eventually, as gravity is, indeed, a cruel mistress. But there are a number of things a woman can do to find ways to prevent breast sagging.
1. Wear the proper bra when exercising: Since your breasts are made up of fat, not muscle, there is nothing you can do to firm the tissue itself, but wearing an improper, non-supportive bra can be as detrimental to your breasts as exercise is beneficial to the rest of your body. Opt for a quality bra which cups and supports the sides and bottom of your breasts. And stay away from the generically sized models that usually come in sizes XS to XXL. Choose one carefully fitted to your chest measurement and cup size instead.
2. Have a professional bra fitting once, or even twice, a year: A properly fitted bra is a necessary tool, and one of the best ways to prevent breast sagging.
3. Don’t smoke: Obviously, smoking is a bad idea in general, for a variety of health reasons.
But smoking can also damage the elastic in our skin and ligaments, exacerbating the problem of sagging breasts.
4. To not tan or burn your breasts: Since the skin on your breasts tends to be exposed less often, it is more sensitive than other parts of the body, and is therefore more easily damaged. Suffer through the tan lines as one of the easier ways to prevent breast sagging.
5. Maintain a steady weight: “Yoyo” dieting, the constant cycle of weight loss and weight gain, can wreak havoc on the skin and the supporting ligaments of the breast tissue. Just like a rubber band, constant stretching and relaxing causes these structures to lose elasticity, allowing the breasts to sag.
6. Contrary to many popular myths, breastfeeding does not cause your breasts to sag. But pregnancy can! Maintaining a healthy weight during pregnancy can help to prevent breast sagging after delivery.
7. Drink plenty of water: If you are not properly hydrated, your skin tends to become dry, wrinkled, and not-supple, offering little or no support to your breast tissue.
8. Massage can be one of the most beneficial ways to prevent breast sagging: There are a number of natural oils which can be used, including coconut and olive oil, which will improve skin tone, increase the elasticity of the skin, and add firmness. Pomegranate oil, rich in phyto-nutrients, is considered a wonderful anti-aging agent, helping to return youthful elasticity to aging skin. Massage will draw blood to the surface and increase blood flow, thus stimulating muscle growth and cell repair which will reduce the appearance and severity of sagging breasts.
9. Aloe Vera has long been known to have important benefits for our skin: Among them its natural skin-tightening qualities, which can be used to treat and prevent sagging breasts. Its antioxidant qualities help prevent damage caused by free-radicals as we age. Massage in a circular motion for ten minutes, let the oil sit on the skin for another ten minutes, then wash off.
10. Breasts are composed of fat, and not muscle, exercise will affect them directly: But we can strengthen the muscles and ligaments which support them, slowing the pull of gravity to a minimum. Exercise designed to strengthen the pectoral muscles beneath the breast, such as push-ups and lifting weights, is very beneficial in our campaign to prevent our breasts from sagging.
